    Touch screens keep being a growing display since 2007 when the iPhone first time launched by Apple, it already becomes one of the primary classifications of the LCD panels and LCD modules.

     

    Following the growing of conferences/teaching need of large size digital touch display, also the smart city concepts more and more popular in worldwide city development, everyone is asking for large size touchable digital signage can be used to make their city much “future”, this is the reason why touch panel sizes larger than iPhone and iPad is prosperous now.

     

    In general, there are 2 mainly types of touch can be used by large size touch display, Infrared and capacity, Infrared usually on large size over 55-inch and support multi-point touch at same time, the only problem is infrared always effects by sunlight and other possible high temperature sources; Capacity usually used on small sizes under 32-inch, give display much precisely and stable touch function, but take much time and price to produce.

     

    The capacitive technology got its start in 1965, when an English researcher, E.A. Johnson, created a lab display. Sam Hurst, founder of Elo graphics, commercialized the technology in 1977. The technology consists of a layer of glass, or a protective cover, that sits atop a touch sensor layer. That layer is coated with a matrix of overlapping wires made from a transparent conducting material. Those wires connect to a controller chip that receives the data and sends it to the phone or tablet’s main processor. The touch sensor layer is sandwiched in between the protective cover and the display panel, usually a liquid crystal display or organic light emitting diode (OLED) display. When a finger comes down on the cover, it distorts the screen’s electrical field, resulting in a measurable change in capacitance, or the ability to store a charge. Then a signal gets sent to the controller chip.
